SERVICE
Service is a big part of our vision. While it is clear from Scripture that we aren’t saved by good works, God gives us good work to do. Paul says that it is only by grace that we are saved (Ephesians 2:8,9), but in the very next breath, he says that we are “God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (vs. 10)
The Heidelberg Catechism puts it well in Q&A 86:
Q. Since we have been delivered from our misery by grace through Christ without any merit of our own, why then should we do good works?
A. Because Christ, having redeemed us by his blood, is also restoring us by his Spirit into his image, so that with our whole lives we may show that we are thankful to God for his benefits, so that he may be praised through us, so that we may be assured of our faith by its fruits, and so that by our godly living our neighbors may be won over to Christ.
At New Life Church we serve for God’s glory. It’s not about us. We serve to please our Heavenly Father. We serve outside or inside the church using our gifts and stewarding our resources.
-
Serve our Community - God calls us to join Him in mission by serving people around us, proclaiming and living out the good news of Jesus. We serve in various ways with individual, group, and church-wide projects.
-
Serve in the Church – Ministry Teams help people serve within our church. From prayer to worship, children and youth, up front ministries, and behind the scenes ministries. God is pleased with all different types of service.
-
Stewardship - God also entrusts resources to us and calls us to steward those resources for His glory. Do you know what the Bible says about money? How should you spend your time? We teach stewardship out of obedience to Jesus.
