DAWN DOBBS SMITH
Position: School Director
Phone: (281) 288-7744
Dawn grew up in Indiana, she describes her younger self as a people pleaser. She did all the right things - not because they were good or right or righteous, but because they pleased the people around her. After beginning college at Purdue University, she began to realize on a campus of 35,000 people, she simply didn’t know who to please. She came to follow Christ through the ministry of a local church, who introduced her to the One person in the universe worthy of the worship that she had so long misplaced. Through their ministry she got to know the God who knew her at her very worst, loved her enough to rescue her, and called her to live only for Him.
After college, Dawn moved to Pennsylvania for a job designing children’s clothing. While living in PA she bought a small design company, met and married Adrian (who was then a student at Westminster Seminary), and gave birth to their daughter Emma. In their years in Pennsylvania, God shaped the lives of Dawn and Adrian through the faculty of Westminster Seminary and the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation. The studies and mentoring they received there equipped them for a lifetime of ministry.
Soon God called them to Dallas, where Adrian taught for Westminster Seminary, they mentored seminary students, and became involved in a bi-lingual church plant serving a low-income Hispanic community, and eventually became foster parents to Avery. Over time, Dawn sensed that God was calling her away from children’s clothing design and into full-time ministry.
Dawn has discipled women and led Bible studies for years. Then in Dallas, served as Coordinator of Ministries for Cristo Rey Presbyterian Church, Director of Operations and Development for Casa del Lago (a faith-based non-profit she helped to form), and serves now as the Director of New Life Community Christian School and Children’s Ministry Director for New Life Church.
When asked about her ministry, Dawn says “It is my greatest joy to teach the story of redemption found in Scripture to people young and old. What a delight it is to watch the Lord give His children eyes to see and ears to hear! It’s beautiful to watch Him transform people to look more and more like Him! What a privilege to use the gifts He has given me to be a part of that process.”
